Dear Readers,
I write about memorable experiences that were touched by a song that made it special.
“Perchance To Dream,” from William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, is a poem I wrote about my quest to remember a dream again, and how inner peace helped me achieve that. For the last several years or so since my ex-husband left, I had let a good night’s sleep, and a dream to remember, become a thing of the past. At least, until recently.
This post references the song, “30 Children’s Pieces, Opus 27. Number 26. A Short Story” by Carol Rosenberger, a classical pianist. It is one of my favorite tracks from the album, “Perchance To Dream,” which is a lullaby album for children and adults. It has 20 beautiful pieces by classical greats such as Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rosenberger herself. I used to play this album for my son when he was little to help him sleep, and it really worked! I believe it also may have been a small part in his love of the piano too. Now although this song is a lullaby, don’t worry – it’s looped, but it’s short. Hopefully it will only relax you, instead of making you fall asleep. 🙂
Everybody dreams. You can’t help it. Everybody dreams when they go to sleep, but actually remembering your dream is different. My story and poem are about yearning to remember a good dream. A sweet dream. A dream that gives you hope, and keeps your love alive! Isn’t it great to wake up and remember a dream like that with a smile? I really wanted to remember a dream like that again. Having that private little moment to myself after waking up from a sweet dream is very intimate, quiet, and special, and I really missed that.
I had let (the key word is “let”) my acquired skill of having a happy heart to allow myself to remember a dream go the way of the Dodo Bird of Stability, a.k.a. my ex-husband, when he flew out the door 5 years ago. I needed to stop focusing on the problem, which was blaming that bird for turning our lives upside down, and focus on a solution. I later discovered that solution was acceptance and letting go of the past, and surrender of it all to achieve my own stability, a.k.a., the Butterfly of Happiness. It was time to let that Butterfly soar and perchance (perhaps, maybe, or possibly) remember a dream again, and I did just that through the power of prayer.
He sent me a sign of love that opened my heart and changed my life. Call me crazy, but now I see these signs everywhere, which I call Hearts In Nature. There are sky hearts, tree hearts, rock hearts, beach hearts…all kinds of hearts, and what blows my mind is that they’ve always been around. I love to see and take pictures of them, and all of the photos in this story were taken by me over the past few years at various locations and Folk Festivals all over Florida. I’ll let you guess where each one came from. I did draw two different hearts in the sand, but you’ll see why 🙂
That first sign made a believer out of me, and every day I see at least one of them. These signs helped put me back on the right track and keep me there, and because of that, I am sharing my story with hopes it may be a blessing to you. May the Butterfly of Happiness fly to you, give you peace, and soar in your heart forever…

PERCHANCE TO DREAM
I hadn’t been able to dream for a while
Had been a long time since one made me smile
Life used to be simple and easy to do
And I could afford a sweet dream or two
One day it just stopped for a very long time
I don’t know why, no reason or rhyme…
I know we all dream every night when we sleep
But to dream and remember, not my dream to keep
My sleep was sporadic, and barely enough
To keep spinning my wheels, alone in the rough
Before I knew it, the years had flown by
And to dream was a dream in itself gone awry
I’d gotten much older, and mellowed with age
I’d slowed down my pace, my priorities changed
Was weary of battle and struggle to live
Thought the candle I’d burned, had no light left to give
But somehow a bright, tiny spark had remained
That longed to be stoked and returned to a flame
In order to take on this difficult task
The source would provide, I just had to ask
It was time to move forward, the choice had been made
It was time to start living again so I prayed
For surrender, for joy, acceptance and peace
Letting go, hope and love, and finally, release
I’d hit rock bottom hard, could no longer stand
That’s when the good Lord reached out his hand
He lifted me up with a sign in the sky
Of a heart shaped cloud, clear as day floating by
Was hard to believe signs of love were abound
But they’d always been there; in the sky
On the ground
In the rocks
In the trees
And shells on the sand
In the beauty of nature, made by God’s hand
This miracle changed me, no longer afraid
To get up and face each beautiful day
And as I became more attuned to the Earth
I no longer questioned myself, or my worth
My calluses softened, heart opened wide
Everyday worries were taken in stride
I’m still making progress; will take quite a while
For each sign I’m grateful, say, “thank you” and smile
As I let the Lord guide me, surrender is key
For my Butterfly of Happiness to fly and be free
There’s love all around, like the hearts in the sky
And I share them with others, to help theirs fly
And perchance to dream? Yes, it happened one day
It was finally time, so He sent one my way
Though it’s only been one, I know it’s a start
Now that Butterfly’s flying inside my heart
Soaring up like a Phoenix, a heart on her wing
Rising up from the ashes, a new song to sing
Each day we’re living’s a chance to improve
The one shot we’re given, so forward we move
As sure as the tide, and the rise of the sun
I’m glad for my dream, when before there was none
